Zoremoreyon Moore, Marion, Charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Related Charges

MURPHYSBORO — Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez announced today that Zoremoreyon J.D. Moore, age 18, of Marion, Illinois, has been charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, all Class X felonies as a result of a shooting that took place in Carbondale, Illinois, on March 20, 2022. He is also charged with two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, both Class 1 felonies, and one count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, a Class 4 felony.

State’s Attorney Cervantez explained that the Carbondale Police were able to use a combination of city cameras and business owned cameras to quickly investigate the shooting and bring the suspects into custody. Cervantez said that “video evidence from city cameras has been instrumental for his office to prosecute violent offenses.”

Moore is being held in the Jackson County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on April 12, 2022.

State’s Attorney Cervantez emphasizes that “charges are not evidence of guilt, and that a defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which his office has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
