JACKSON COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES GUN LOCK PROGRAM
Joseph A. Cervantez, Jackson County State’s Attorney, announced today that the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office is providing gun locks to promote community safety. Cervantez is leading the southern Illinois region in this work to encourage all families to secure guns separately from ammunition.
Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children in the United States. Approximately 4.6 million children live in homes where guns are not secured. Safe storage can lower the risk for unintentional shootings by children and curb suicide attempts. Proper storage also lowers the number of guns stolen from homes and vehicles.
The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office purchased over one-thousand cable, gun locks through the Illinois State Police Asset Forfeiture Fund.
Upon request, the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office will provide gun locks to local community groups and organizations to distribute at various events.
For more information, or to obtain gun locks, please visit the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office located at 1001 Walnut Street, Third Floor, Murphysboro, Illinois, call (618) 687-7200, or visit the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s website at www.jacksoncountystatesattorney.com.
